S.A.F.E. Swimmers™

Our Story

From Fear to Purpose

At eight years old, a near-drowning at a birthday party changed everything. That moment inspired our founder, Dr. Latashia Key, to refuse to let fear win.

Having taught thousands of children to swim, she turned her doctoral research into an innovative water safety program built specifically to honor diverse cultures and break down long-held fears—empowering families, training instructors, and saving lives.

Our Mission

To save lives and end drowning disparities by giving Black and brown families the care, trust, and support they need to feel safe and confident in the water.

Our Vision

A world where every child and every adult — regardless of race, zip code, or income — feels strong, amazing, fearless, and empowered in and around water.

Our Goal

Teach 50,000 children and adults to swim and certify 500 culturally competent instructors across 20 licensed partner communities by 2030.
